Playful Rhythms
Playful Rhythms ~ providing children with the essential experience of music
One of many projects of PCWF relating to creativity and the arts, Playful Rhythms is focused on children and youth 1-17. The objective of this project is to bring drumming and recreational music-making activities to children in underfunded communities, youth centres, schools, parks and local community events.
Musical Workshops are customized for each unique and diverse group of children and provide a rich musical experience, inspire creativity and help build community bonds among participants. A child’s imagination is expanded through the experience of learning to play on drums and percussion instruments from all over the world; congas, djembe, doumbeck, bongos as well as a variety of shakers, bells and woods.
Children engage in rhythm-based games that teach them how to listen and cooperate with each other. The program provides an outlet for self-expression and creativity while helping children to gain self-confidence and increase their coordination, teamwork and communication skills.
Currently, the project is working on acquiring a large collection of drums and percussion instruments through donations and fundraising. All contributions are greatly appreciated.
